Introduction to MyMedicare

MyMedicare is a voluntary patient registration system introduced by the Australian Government. It is designed to formalize and strengthen the relationship between patients, their general practice, general practitioner (GP), and primary care teams.

Why MyMedicare Matters for Patients

Regular Visits for Better Health

Studies have shown that seeing the same GP and healthcare team regularly results in better health outcomes.

Funding & Support

When a general practice and their patients register in MyMWhen a general practice and their patients register in MyMedicare, the Australian Government provides additional funding to support the practice in delivering care tailored to the patient's needs.

Foreign Policy

Progress moves us forward without marginalizing efforts to disrupt responsibility toward a potential the compromising.

Eligibility and Registration

MyMedicare is open to Australians who have:

  • A Medicare card or a DVA Veteran Card.

  • Had at least two face-to-face appointments at their regular practice in the past 24 months (or one for practices in remote locations).

Special Considerations

  • Those facing hardships like domestic violence or homelessness are exempt from all eligibility requirements.

  • Parents/guardians and their children can be registered at the same practice, given either is eligible. Parents must register and consent for children under 14.

Patient Benefits & Incentives

Patients will have access to longer MBS-funded telephone consultations.

From August 2024 onwards, those in residential aged care homes will receive more frequent GP visits and improved care planning. By mid-2024, individuals with chronic diseases will have connections to more appropriate care in general practice.
